No stopping Turkey’s cube-championship winning freedivers

After the Turkish Freediving Cube Championship last weekend, Turkey’s freedivers look set to both become the champions of the World Underwater Federation (CMAS) 1st European Apnea Championship at the end of August and to break more records.

The cube, also known as “jump blue,” is a discipline of freediving that involves competitors diving without a breathing apparatus to 10 meters and swimming the outside of a 15 meter by 15 meter square (the cube) marked out by ropes. Twelve divers compete at a time while referees stay on the seabed to make sure they abide by the rules. The winners are those who make it the furthest along the sides of the cube. Competitors are mostly in their mid-30s or younger.
