My discoveries become your discoveries and give credit to your skills and excellence as an aquatic wildlife enthusiast, student, photographer, diver, snorkeler or reef walker.

—Neville Coleman

His impressive career in underwater photography spanned over 45 years of underwater exploration, photographing over 450 new species of marine life and authoring over 65 books. He was a great and tireless ambassador for Australia's marine environment winning the prestigious Medal of Order of Australia award.

Michael Aw writes: Neville Coleman is my hero, mentor and have inspired many Australian, divers and naturalists around the world. He was the first of many; 1969 he alone undertook a project aiming to document entire marine life of Australia, using underwater photography. He will be deeply missed. A sad day today:(

Neville Coleman discovered many marine creatures new to science. Several species of fish, nudibranchs and other invertebrates have been named after him, including a mantis shrimp Lysiosquilla colemani, a nudibranch Chromodoris colemani, and a pygmy seahorse Hippocampus colemani.
