Florida marinas pledge to be shark-free

A shark-free marina is one that does not allow caught sharks to be brought into its facility for display or slaughter.
"Reducing Worldwide Shark Mortality, one marina at a time"
ishermen will not be allowed to bring sharks into a shark-free marina for photographic or trophy display purposes or for cleaning or processing of the shark for fins, meat, jaws or other byproducts.
The organization works with marinas, fishermen and like-minded non-profit groups to form community-conscious policy and increase awareness of the need to protect sharks.

As Florida's largest owner of marinas open to the public, we hope to set a great example for others in the industry. Together with SFMI, we hope to promote a practical solution to shark overfishing and reduce shark mortality/

— Ray Graziotto, president and chief operating officer of Loggerhead Club & Marina
Loggerhead Club & Marina registered all 13 of its Florida locations with the Shark-Free Marina Initiative, which seeks to reduce worldwide shark mortality.

The Mission of Shark-Free Marinas The Shark-Free Marina Initiative has a singular purpose, to reduce worldwide shark mortality. We encourage shark conservation at sport fishing and resort marinas by prohibiting the landing of any shark at the participating marina.

It is our goal to work with, not against, the recreational and commercial fishing community. As shark populations are decimated on a global scale we as a species are obligated to pay attention and reduce our wasteful destruction of an incredibly important resource. The second phase of this initiative will be to partner with shark tournament organizers for sustainable and eco sanctioned events.
