Diving Andorra

The tiny country squeezed in between France and Spain high up in the Pyrenees is probably not what comes into mind as scuba diving destination. Nevertheless, there is diving to be done here as well – ice diving.

Not only that, but when you’re venting your nitrogen between dives you could either go skiing or shopping.

Diving in Andorra also means high altitude diving and there are a few dive sites available. Most of them are semi-artificial pool where water is stored for artificial snow production. However, there are also the Tristaina lakes which form a set of three lakes from glacial origin. If you think that high altitude ice diving isn’t enough adventure for you, add to that: arrival to dive site, helicopter. Way out from dive site: off-piste skiing and you’re definitely getting as close as you can get to a “James Bond” reputation with your friends.

The diving takes place at an altitude of 2000-2500 meters. You can dive the year around in lakes that during the summer offer freshwater life including trout, amphibians, small vertebrates and local micro-organisms. Winter time it’s all about ice-diving. However, do not restrict yourself to just diving, but combine your trip with skiing as well.
