Fisheries Minister Norman Moore is considering a number of methods, including shark enclosures and underwater bubble machines, to protect people from sharks.
“
As this problem is getting more and more severe we’ve got to look at a whole range of options.
”—
Mr Moore said a system of bubbles; beach wide shark repellents and swimming enclosures were all options which could be considered.
The State Opposition has pledged to build ocean pools in Albany, Cottesloe and a northern suburbs beach, if it wins government.
Mr Moore said the government would consider ocean pools but said they were a small part of a bigger approach to the issue and that he had recently received a report which suggested shark nets may not be an ideal solution.
